SEDATION DENTISTRY
Sedation Dentistry is used to provide a relaxing and anxiety-free experience while receiving dental treatment. Thirty percent or more of the population avoids the dentist due to fear. This commonly called “dental phobia” prevents people from receiving necessary routine dental care, which can potentially compromise the health and function of their mouth and smile. Sedation Dentistry ensures that patients receive comfortable, safe and anxiety-free dental care.
Oral sedation Dentistry is now the most common technique used in the United States to calm a patient’s fears. This technique is easy, safe and uses no needles. Oral sedation often allows you to complete most all of your dental treatment in one visit.
You will be given an oral medication to take approximately one hour before your dental appointment. You will be able to relax and sleep through your dental appointment. The medication creates such a level of comfort that most patients do not remember the visit. In reality, oral sedation maintains a level of consciousness in the patient for cooperation and safety.
The medication stays in your system for several hours after the appointment, so that there is a decrease or lack of discomfort after procedures are completed.
You will need to make sure that you have someone to drive you to and from your appointment.
